Connections 2017 Resource Fair

Every spring, the Connections Resource Fair showcases organizations that provide products or services for persons with disabilities.

The community is invited to come out and browse the displays, see exciting new products and learn about supports that are available to them. The fair is free to visit and no registration is required.

AODA Compliance Training

The Coalition offers workshops to help organizations understand and comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. Workshops for both management and front line staff address the requirements for policy development and staff training required under the Act.


Participants learn about interacting with people with various types of disabilities. Instruction on assistive devices, service animals and support persons as well as how to assist individuals having difficulty accessing your organization’s services is provided.



Management Training

This one hour workshop is intended primarily for those in management or policy making position. Our facilitators help you to understand the AODA and requirements your organization will need to meet under the Customer Service Standards. We will overview items such as :

  • purpose of the AODA
  • identify solutions to barriers
  • required policies & procedures related to persons with disabilities
  • policies regarding assistive devices, service animals and support persons
  • type of training required for staff
  • compliance reports and enforcement


Customer Service Training

This three hour workshop provides the customer service training required by the Act. Staff learn to provide accessible customer service to persons with disabilities. While the training is required for front line staff it is valuable to all. Our interactive and engaging workshop covers items such as:

  • purpose of the AODA
  • how to interact and communicate with customers that have disabilities
  • required policies & procedures related to persons with disabilities
  • interacting with customers that use service animals or support persons
  • use of adaptive equipment
  • how to assist someone having difficulty accessing your services

Abilities & Awareness Workshop

The Abilities & Awareness Workshop is an informative and experiential learning opportunity about persons with disabilities. The three hour workshop will prepare your organization to recognize and be more comfortable with disability related issues. Disability simulation exercises provide an opportunity to experience those disabilities first-hand. We come to you!



Advocacy

As experts in disability related matters, the Coalition is often called on to provide assistance with advocacy, information or referral.
