Programs to Develop Employability Skills

We offer one-to-one counselling to help clients deal with personal issues that may interfere with their ability to obtain or maintain employment. We also offer group workshops in Problem Solving, Goal Setting, Building Confidence, Assertive Communication, Stress Management, Job Loss, Dealing with Feelings, Knowing Self, and Working Values.

Programs targeted to Persons With Disabilities

All are welcome and included or referred to community resources that can meet their needs. Also, Family Services of Peel has the Independent Community Living Program and The Assisted Community Living Program.

Criteria for Participation

Clients must be unemployed or underemployed (working less then 20 hours per week and seeking employment. They must be referred by Mississauga Community Connections in Mississauga or VPI in Brampton. Clients can be referred to the program by Ontario Works.

Monitoring Success

We provide participatory statistics to Services Canada and outcome measures to Ontario Works. We also distribute satisfaction surveys to our clients. An Employment Counselling Action Plan is developed with each client. Goals are specified and measured at the end of the intervention.

Participant Feedback

Yes, we have clients fill out satisfaction surveys the results of which are communicated to our funders.

Follow up Program

Every client develops an Employment Counselling Action Plan with their counsellor (ECAP). Goals are specified and listed. How many of these goals have been met at the end of the intervention are recorded and reported.

Obstacles Facing Program

Mississauga Community Connections and VPI are new partners on behalf of Services Canada, and it will take time to work to iron-out the referral process.

Is Program Well Utilized

Marketing & Recruitment

Both Mississauga Community Connections and VPI do marketing on behalf of the employment programs in Peel. Since this is a new system, it will take time the programs to be fully utilized. We also advertise in local newspapers and send out flyers to community partners.
